Eye Exams at Our Tulsa Family Eyecare Center
At Harrel Eyecare in Tulsa, we offer professional and affordable eyecare for the whole family. We want you and your family to feel good about coming to an eye doctor you can trust and we strive to make your family’s eye health our top priority.
That’s one reason Dr. Monte Harrel and our team at Harrel Eyecare stresses the importance annual eye exams. These seemingly routine eye exams are actually very important and can be the difference between healthy and unhealthy eyes. Maintaining a proper yearly exam schedule is crucial to diagnose those vision and eye problems that don’t cause obvious indications that there is a problem.
Early detection of eye and vision conditions offers our patients a variety of treatment options. In fact, early detection can actually help restore or even prevent vision loss. The American Optometric Association suggests you have a yearly eye and vision exam and if you are at risk for certain eye issues due to heredity or environment, they suggest having an eye exam twice per year.
What to Expect During Your Eye Exam at Harrell Eyecare in Tulsa
No worries! Eye exams are painless! Your exam will start with Dr. Monte Harrel asking a few questions about your vision, any issues you are having, prescription medications, your work environment, and some other basic health info. He will also ask about your family history and previous eye/vision issues, so be sure to bring any necessary information with you.
Testing Your Vision
Next, Dr. Harrel will test your vision to make sure you have the best and clearest vision possible. Our office also recommends a vision acuity test as part of your comprehensive eye exam. Dr. Harrel will have you read the wall eye chart and a reading eye chart. Your vision is based on the results of these tests which is how Dr. Harrell will determine if you need prescription glasses, contacts, or eye exercises.
Dr. Harrel will also test your eye functionality during your annual eye exam. He will perform several tests to check your color vision, focus, depth perception, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, and responsiveness to light. This will allow him to diagnose any issue that may be affecting the eyes working ability.
Advanced Eyecare Technology From Our Tulsa Eye Doctor
Not only does our Tulsa eye doctor perform routine exams, we also examine your eyes – inside and out – to determine their health. We have the most advanced technology available to determine the health of your eyes because early diagnoses are key to treating eye and vision issues.
Optomap Retinal Eye Exams
The advanced Optomap retinal exam system examines the inside of the eyes. The retina, the back part of your eye, is the area of your eye that captures images and sends them to the brain. The Optomap exam checks your retina for signs of disease that can affect your eyesight like:
- Glaucoma
- Retinal tears
- Macular degeneration
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
The iCare Tonometer
The iCare tonometer is a new and advanced way to test for glaucoma that offers a faster and better diagnosis. This new device simply holds a small ball in front of the cornea, then taps it on the surface faster than a blink. It feels like a slight tickle and it’s done!
